Vol. 499 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

122 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to increase the moneys available for local authorities to undertake group water supply schemes in 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2392/99]

The overall capital provision for the rural water programme in 1999 is £28.6 million, over one-third greater than the 1998 provision. While I have not yet announced details of the 1999 programme, of which group water schemes is a major element, I expect that the increase in funding for these schemes will be of the same order as the overall provision.
