Vol. 499 No. 3

Written Answers - Teachers' Retirement Age.

Michael Noonan

Question:

350 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Education and Science if teachers employed by vocational education committees are obliged to retire at 65 years of age if they are funding their own pensions and are not eligible for a pension from his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2686/99]

The compulsory retirement age for teachers is 65.

Serving teachers may continue in their posts up to the end of the school year in which they reach 65 years of age.
