Vol. 499 No. 3

Written Answers - Appointments to State Bodies.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

123 Mr. Durkan asked the Taoiseach the number and identity of persons appointed by him to various boards, agencies or executives since coming into office; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2636/99]

The bodies under the aegis of the Department of the Taoiseach are the National Economic and Social Council, NESC, the National Economic and Social Forum, NESF, the National Statistics Board, the National Centre for Partnership, the Information Society Commission, the Law Reform Commission, and the National Millennium Committee. I do not make any appointments to these bodies. With regard to the National Millennium Committee, however, nominations were made by Minister of State, Deputy Séamus Brennan, and approved by the Tánaiste and me. The membership of the National Millennium Committee is as follows: Deputy Séamus Brennan, Government Chief Whip and Minister of State; Mr. Peter Barry, former Minister; Mr. Lochlann Quinn, chairman, AIB Group; Mr. Howard Kilroy, governor, Bank of Ireland group; Ms Eithne Healy, chairman, Dublin Threatre Festival; Ms Deirdre Purcell, journalist and author; Ms Patricia O'Donovan, deputy general secretary, ICTU; Ms Monica McWilliams, Northern Ireland Women's Coalition; Mr. Derek Keogh, chairman, Millennium Festivals Limited; Mr. Brian Murphy, chairman, Office of Public Works; Mr. Paul McGuinness, manager of U2; Mr. Ronan Keating of Boyzone; Mr. Joe Barry, former Director-General of RTE; Mr. Paddy Duffy, special adviser to the Taoiseach; and Mr. Eoin O'Leary, principal officer, Department of the Taoiseach. These people are not in receipt of any remuneration for their participation on the committee.
