Vol. 499 No. 3

Written Answers - Water Safety.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

140 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if his Department has commenced an investigation into the effect of waves from the HSS ferry on swimmers at the Forty Foot bathing place, Sandycove, County Dublin, following the result of an inquest (details supplied); if so, the individual who is carrying out the investigation; when it will be completed; if he will publish the results; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2689/99]

I am aware of the matter raised by the Deputy. I have asked the chief surveyor of the Marine Survey Office to examine this matter further and to advise if a review of the measures already put in place since the incident occurred, in relation to the operation of the HSS vessel, is warranted.
