Vol. 499 No. 4

Written Answers. - Bull Island (Dublin) Project.

Richard Bruton

Question:

143 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has reviewed the submission by Dublin Corporation seeking funds to breach the causeway linking Bull Island with the mainland in order to improve the scouring effect of the tide and prevent the growing problem of siltation and its application for additional dredging to maximise the impact of such works; and if he will make a statement on the matter dealing in particular with his Department's willingness to fund these works. [2977/99]

Dublin Corporation applied to my Department in February 1998 for a grant of £1.4 million for the provision of a 70 metre bridge at the Bull Island causeway. It was advised by my Department to consider prioritising the project for funding either from its own resources and/or from the discretionary block grant made available by my Department.

Dublin Corporation will receive over £4 million in block grants from my Department in 1999.
