Vol. 500 No. 4

Written Answers. - Speed Regulations.

Enda Kenny

Question:

284 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the regulations that apply in the case of truck engines being governed for speed; the way in which these regulations are monitored and supervised; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4230/99]

The Road Traffic (Construction, Equipment and Use of Vehicles) (Amendment) Regulations, 1993, consistent with EU requirements, prescribes the fitment of speed limitation devices to certain heavy goods vehicles. A check that a speed limitation device is present where required and that the seals on the device are intact is part of the compulsory annual roadworthiness test of such vehicles. Ongoing enforcement of the regulations is the responsibility of the Garda Síochána.
