Question:335 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a further recruitment competition will be initiated for the Garda Siochána; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4096/99]
Written Answers. - Garda Recruitment.
On 3 November last the Government approved the holding of a Garda recruitment competition in 1999. The competition was advertised in November and the first stage of the competition, i.e. written tests, is scheduled for late February-early March.
Recruitment requirements are kept under ongoing review in my Department and my proposals for the next competition will be a matter for consideration by the Government in due course.
