Written Answers. - Education Resource Centres.

Liz McManus

Question:

368 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will undertake to proceed to officially recognise the Education Resource Centre in Baltinglass, County Wicklow, in view of the fact that the review body has completed its report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4095/99]

Billy Timmins

Question:

379 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to the request from County Wicklow Vocational Education Committee for official recognition for the Education Resource Centre in Baltinglass, County Wicklow. [4287/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 368 and 379 together.

A working group, under the chairmanship of Mr. Tom Rice, was established to review the operation of recognised outdoor education centres, which are owned and managed by vocational education committees. The report of the working group was presented to me on 12 January 1999. The report is being considered in my Department in regard to the development of future policies relating to vocational education committee outdoor education centres. The position of the Baltinglass centre will be considered in that context.
