John Bruton

Question:

85 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment when she proposes to publish the interdepartmental report on the State's economic performance in Asia; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2763/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 73 and 85 together.

The Asia Strategy Group was established in October 1998 under the chair of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment to consider how best to increase trade and investment between Ireland and Asia. The work of the group focused primarily on economic issues underlying Ireland's co-operation with Asia. The membership of the group was drawn from a wide array of key private and public sector interests. The Asia Strategy Group held three plenary meetings, received a wide range of written submissions and consulted with outside groups and other interested parties.
I propose to bring a Memorandum to Government shortly concerning the Asia Strategy Report and I will be recommending to the Government that the report be published as soon as possible following the conclusion of the Cabinet review of the recommendations.
