Jim Higgins

76 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the progress, if any, made on the examination of allowing non-nationals, including asylum seekers, to work here. [4168/99]

Nora Owen

Question:

110 Mrs. Owen asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the progress, if any, made on the examination of allowing non-nationals, including asylum seekers, to work here. [4188/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 76 and 110 together.

The Government is considering a number of issues in relation to the treatment of those who seek asylum in this country. This includes the question of whether those who have been here for some time should be allowed to work pending examination of their cases by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform.
