159 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the guarantees she can give to con sumers in regard to security on the Internet where sensitive information such as bank accounts and PIN numbers are concerned. [4443/99]
My Department is currently preparing outline legislation on cyptography and electronic signatures for publication later this year. The outline legislation will directly address the security of sensitive information such as bank accounts and PIN numbers and the issue of signature validation for all aspects of e-commerce including Internet use. In parallel, we are working with our European partners in drafting an EU directive which will ensure a common approach on this issue.
