Vol. 500 No. 6

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Schemes.

Liam Aylward

Question:

109 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the outcome of an appeal lodged on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny to have his land considered for inclusion in the integrated area plan prepared by Kilkenny County Council under the new urban renewal scheme. [4739/99]

Some 43 towns and cities, including Kilkenny, are to benefit under the new urban renewal designations which I announced yesterday. As recommended by the expert advisory panel on urban renewal, tax incentives for residential refurbishment will apply to that part of John Street, Kilkenny recommended for designation by Kilkenny County Council. Under the Urban Renewal Act of 1998, it is a matter for the relevant local authority to recommend sub-areas for designation within the area covered by an integrated area plan.
