Question:

295 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Health and Children if funding will be provided to the Western Alzheimer Foundation for a res pite home in Ballindine, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5349/99]

The United Nations International Year of Older Persons 1999 is being managed in this country by a national steering committee which is serviced by a small secretariat based at 58 Fitzwilliam Square, Dublin 2. I have provided adequate funding for the organisation for the year and, in an advertisement which appeared in the national daily newspapers on Saturday, 6 February 1999, details were given of how interested groups could apply for financial support for local and regional projects.
