Vol. 501 No. 3

Written Answers. - Road Traffic Offences.

Bernard Allen

Question:

333 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number and types of offences, other than exceeding the speed limit, successfully prosecuted by the traffic corps for the most recent 12 month period for which figures are available. [6136/99]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the number and types of road traffic offences successfully prosecuted by members of the traffic corps are not readily available, and could be compiled only by the diversion to the task of a disproportionate amount of Garda time and resources.

However, the number and types of road traffic offences successfully prosecuted by the Garda for the most recent 12 month period, including traffic corps members, are set out in the Annual Report of the Garda Síochána, 1997, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library.
