Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Jim Higgins

Question:

346 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will appoint an additional remedial teacher to St. Peter's national school, Snugboro, Castlebar, County Mayo. [5857/99]

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

354 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Education and Science the situation regarding the appointing of a full-time remedial teacher at St. Brigid's primary school, Haddington Road, Dublin 4. [6023/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 346 and 354 together.

My priority at present is to ensure that all schools have access to a remedial service with effect from September 1999. Arrangements are currently being made in my Department to this end.

I can assure the Deputies that the needs of St. Peter's national school, Snugboro, County Mayo and St. Brigid's national school Haddington Road, Dublin 4 will be considered in the event that additional resources become available to improve existing remedial services.
