Question:

349 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Education and Science if a person (details supplied) in County Cork is entitled to a higher education grant. [5860/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 345 and 349 together.

Under the terms of the higher education grants scheme, students may be grant aided for only one post-graduate course. Students pursuing the two year masters degree course in question may graduate with a higher diploma qualification, which in itself is a post-graduate qualification, after the first year. However, students who are accepted for the second year of the course are not conferred with the diploma after the first year and are eligible to apply for grant aid for the second year of the course.

I understand that the student in question will qualify for a grant.
