Vol. 501 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Michael Ring

Question:

353 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will meet with a person (details supplied) in County Mayo to discuss the transport needs of her children. [5864/99]

As the children to whom the Deputy refers reside 1.6 miles from their nearest national school, they are not eligible for free transport under the terms of the primary school transport scheme. In any event, they are not attending their nearest school.

The question of this family's eligibility for transport has been examined by my Department on a number of occasions and, in the circumstances, I consider that a meeting would serve no useful purpose at this stage.
