Vol. 501 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Michael Ring

Question:

356 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will appoint a contractor for the construction of the new Fahy national school, Newport, County Mayo, since the tenders are with his office and in view of the Western Health Board's environmental health officer's inspection carried out on 21 January 1999 wherein these dilapidated conditions have not changed since the inspection of 1995; and if he will urgently approve a contractor for immediate commencement on construction of a new school. [6025/99]

Tenders for the construction of a new school for Fahy national school are currently under evaluation to my Department. In the meantime, the school management has been requested to provide confirmation of the site title. When the tender evaluation is complete and confirmation of the site title is received, arrangements can then be made to appoint the contractor. At this point, I cannot give a definite date for appointment. However, the Department is expediting progress on the case.
