Vol. 501 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Correspondence.

Nora Owen

Question:

357 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education and Science the response, if any, he has made to a person (details supplied) in County Dublin regarding part-time teachers and delays in payments in view of the fact that an acknowledgement was received from his Department in October 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6026/99]

The part-time teacher referred to by the Deputy is employed by City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee. My Department is not directly involved in the payment of such teachers.

The VEC has advised my Department that the delay in issuing payments to part-time teachers was due to technical difficulties with their payroll system. I understand the difficulties were resolved as quickly as possible and the teacher in question was paid all arrears due on 2 October 1998.

My Department has advised the teacher of the position.
