Vol. 501 No. 3

Written Answers. - Primary School Staffing Schedules.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

381 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education and Science further to Parliamentary Question No. 191 of 10 February 1999 in relation to the improvements to the staffing schedule for primary schools, the improvements which took effect from the staff of each of the school years from 1992 to 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6205/99]

The Deputy will recall that in my reply to the Parliamentary Question to which he refers, I indicated that the staffing schedule was improved on five occasions between 1992-3 and 1998-9. I have requested my officials to document the details of the relevant improvements to the schedule during this period and to forward the information to the Deputy at a very early date.

Improvements to the staffing schedule have permitted a reduction in the overall pupil teacher ratio within primary schools. The policy of this Government is to continue with this process of reducing the pupil teacher ratio.
