Question:

395 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will indicate the number of schools and pupils in each of the secondary voluntary, VEC and community comprehensive schools; the number of schools and pupils designated disadvantaged and the teachers allocated; the number of schools and pupils with home school community liaison teachers and the number of teachers involved; the number of schools and pupils with remedial teachers and the number of teachers involved; the number of schools and pupils with teacher counsellors and the number of teachers involved; and the number of schools and pupils with guidance counsellors and the number of guidance counsellors involved. Two hundred and nine disadvantaged posts have been allocated to 190 second level schools. The total enrolment in these schools is approximately 98,700.
There are 85 second level schools, with a total enrolment of approximately 46,000 pupils, participating in the home-school-community liaison scheme. There are 84 co-ordinators employed in these schools.
Three hundred and fifty ex-quota remedial posts have been allocated at second level. The total enrolment in the schools which have access to an ex-quota remedial service is approximately 217,100.
All schools in the free education scheme have an ex-quota allocation in respect of guidance. The allocation to individual schools varies depending on the enrolment in the school. A total of 567 wholetime teacher equivalents have been allocated in respect of guidance in the current school year.
There are no teacher counsellors allocated at second level.
