Vol. 501 No. 3

Written Answers. - Afforestation Programme.

John Perry

Question:

128 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will make funds available to a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim to provide a stretch of road to gain access to his forest; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6010/99]

In the Operational Programme for Agriculture, Rural Development and Forestry 1994-99 funds are available for forest roads to allow access to forests for plantation development, maintenance and fire protection.

The grant for these roads is 80 per cent of the costs, up to a limit of £14 per linear metre. A road density of seven linear metres per hectare qualifies for grant aid. Grant applications are processed by the Forest Service of my Department, with which the person in question should pursue the matter.
