144 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the number of proposed national heritage areas seriously damaged in 1998 according to the parks and wildlife service; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [6323/99]

Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department, is presently setting up a system to monitor damage in designated areas and to report on the action being taken to alleviate such damage. It is intended to have this new system operational at the earliest possible date.
