Vol. 501 No. 4

Written Answers. - Roads Projects.

Austin Deasy

Question:

59 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will provide a special grant to allow Waterford Corporation to complete the outer ring road; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3917/99]

The maintenance/ improvement of non-national roads in its area, including the completion of the outer ring road, is a matter for Waterford Corporation, to be funded from its own resources, supplemented by allocations from the local government fund. The initial selection and prioritisation of works/projects in Waterford to which the various categories of non-national road grants, including EU co-financed grants, should be applied is also a matter for Waterford Corporation.

The corporation's application to my Department for funding in 1999 under the EU co-financed scheme of grants was in respect of the realignment of the Airport Road (Phase I) which received an allocation of £500,000.
