Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Land Commission.

Willie Penrose

Question:

178 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the arrangements, if any, being made by his Department to deal with the question of trusts which hold thousands of acres of land under the stewardship of the Land Commission; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6781/99]

The Minister for Agriculture and Food is empowered under the Land Acts to perform certain functions in relation to trusts set up under the stewardship of the Irish Land Commission while certain other functions are reserved to the lay commissioners. On the dissolution of the Land Commission the powers reserved to me will be unaffected and those functions previously reserved to the lay commissioners will be transferred to me, as Minister, and will subsequently be delegated to officials in my Department.

Question:

179 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when the commencement order, which brings about the dissolution of the Land Commission, will be signed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6782/99]

I propose to sign the Commencement Order for the Irish Land Commission (Dissolution) Act, 1992, in the near future.
