Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Local Authority Loans.

Question:

271 Mr. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government further to Parliamentry Question No. 5 of 29 January 1999, his estimate of the approximate amount of money outstanding in loans from local authority borrowers on which 12.5 per cent interest rate is still being paid; and the amount of these loans redeemed. [6695/99]

The amount outstanding to the local loans fund at the end of 1998 on these loans was £95 million. Redemptions to the Exchequer in 1998 in respect of all loans amounted to approximately £52 million in total. The bulk of this is likely to relate to 12.5 per cent loans.
