Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Grant Aid.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

289 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will accede to the request from Threshold for an extra £100,000 to meet the day to day demands for information and advice among the growing number of people hardest hit by the current housing crisis. [7052/99]

The overall provision available in 1999 for assistance towards the administrative and general expenses of voluntary housing organisations is £480,000 representing an extra £60,000 or 14 per cent increase on the total for 1998. Threshold's application was considered in the context of this overall provision and having regard to the requirements of other housing organisations which are similarly assisted with their administrative and general expenses. Threshold has been notified of an allocation of £135,000 for 1999 which represents an increase of £55,000 or 69 per cent on the amount paid by the Department to Threshold last year. This allocation to Threshold is significant in the context of the increase in the overall provision for 1999.
