Vol. 502 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Liz McManus

Question:

118 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education and Science if a travel pass will be granted to a person (details supplied) in County Wicklow in view of the fact that his parents are unemployed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7437/99]

The pupil to whom the Deputy refers would not ordinarily qualify for free transport under the terms of the scheme, as he is not attending his nearest Gaelscoil. My Department has received a similar application in respect of a number of other pupils, and has been requested to re-consider their eligibility on the basis that the nearest Gaelscoil is full. This application will be included in my Department's examination of transport arrangements and eligibility of pupils from the area in question, and the Deputy will be informed of the outcome.
