John Bruton

Question:

119 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science his position in relation to a proposal submitted to this Department regarding the establishment of a new community school in Enfield, Co. Meath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7438/99]

An application from the Enfield environment group for the establishment of a community school in Enfield, County Meath has been received in the planning section of my Department. The application is being examined in detail at present. The processing of the application will take some time to conclude given the implications for enrolments in the existing schools in the surrounding centres of Kilcock, Edenderry, Longwood and Trim.

John Bruton

Question:

120 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will purchase a site at Littlepace, Clonee, County Meath, which has been set aside for the construction of a national school; if he will begin the planning process for the school immediately to cater for the massive increase in the population of the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7439/99]

In view of the increase in population in the Littlepace/Castaheany area due to significant housing developments, a review of primary school accommodation requirements for this general area, including the need for a new school, is being carried out in my Department. This review is nearing completion at present and when completed a decision will be taken on the acquisition of a site and the provision of a school.
