Vol. 502 No. 6

Written Answers. - Public Order.

Seán Haughey

Question:

287 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the gardaí at Raheny, Dublin 5 will deal immediately and effectively with a serious problems of gangs involved in crime, vandalism and lawlessness and terrifying local residents at a location (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8880/99]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the area to which the Deputy refers had a relatively elderly population up to 1990. Since then a number of houses have been sold, and young families have moved in. There has been an increase in public order incidents since then although the number of complaints received by the gardaí are relatively low.

I understand that the area receives regular attention from mobile and foot patrols, both uni form and plain clothes. I am assured by the Garda authorities that the area will continue to receive the appropriate Garda attention.
