Vol. 503 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Bernard Allen

Question:

54 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make a statement on the situation where an EEG machine is out of order at Cork University Hospital resulting in delays to treatment of patients. [9715/99]

The provision of medical services in this instance is the statutory responsibility of the Southern Health Board. The board's letter of determination for 1999 includes a capital grant of £950,000 towards the cost of replacement equipment and minor capital works such as that referred to by the Deputy. I understand that an order has been placed for the equipment referred to by the Deputy following the securing of tenders and compliance with the usual procurement procedures.
