52 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason there has been such a long delay in appointing a chairman to the Blood Transfusion Service Board; when the appointment will be made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10462/99]
I am signing an order today appointing a chairperson to the Blood Transfusion Service Board. The reason for the delay in making this appointment was to ensure that a person with the necessary qualities was available given the importance of the role of the BTSB in the delivery of services to hospitals. I am glad to inform the Deputy that the person selected has accepted the position.
