Vol. 503 No. 6

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Seán Haughey

Question:

184 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to change the law to allow for the eviction by local authorities of tenant purchasers involved in anti-social behaviour; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10758/99]

Local authorities may take action under the Housing Acts against those of their tenants who are involved in anti-social behaviour. However, local authority tenants who purchase their homes under the tenant purchase scheme are then private householders. As such, they are subject to the normal legal code which is the responsibility of the Garda and the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform.
