Vol. 503 No. 6

Written Answers. - Driving Licences.

Michael Ring

Question:

185 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo was not allowed to retain the D class qualification on his driving licence when exchanging a United Kingdom licence for an Irish one in the Mayo motor taxation office in view of the fact that he passed a full bus driving test in England and particularly when his colleague was able to retain the qualification when exchanging licences in a motor taxation office in County Cork. [10772/99]

A person who holds a D class qualification on a UK driving licence is entitled to retain that qualification when exchanging that licence for an Irish driving licence. I understand that an administrative error occurred in the case referred to and that this is now being rectified by the local licensing authority.
