Vol. 503 No. 6

Written Answers. - Roads Projects.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

39 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when work will commence on the Kildare town motorway by-pass; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10728/99]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 26 of 3 March 1999.

The National Roads Authority (NRA) is responsible for the financing, supervising, planning and construction by local road authorities, of national road projects.

As explained previously, the European Commission has addressed a query to the Irish Government following complaints to it about the possible impacts of drainage works associated with the by-pass on Pollardstown Fen. The relevant Irish authorities have commissioned further investigation of certain environmental issues involved and this is now almost finalised. My Department will then ensure that a comprehensive response is sent to the Commission with a view to resolving the complaint at the earliest possible date.
