Vol. 503 No. 7

Written Answers. - Schools Catchment Area.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

125 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Education and Science when his Department will stop the encroachment of the catchment area of St. Mary's College, Ballygar, County Galway, at Dysart and Creggs; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a substantial number of students are attracted away from the college as a result of this encroachment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11127/99]

My Department is not aware of an encroachment into the Ballygar catchment area at Creggs. Eligible pupils from the Creggs area currently avail of catchment boundary transport to an adjoining post-primary centre under the terms of the post-primary school transport scheme.

The encroachment at Dysart is currently being re-examined by my Department. The Deputy will be informed of the position as soon as this review has been concluded.
