Vol. 503 No. 7

Written Answers. - Autism Services.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

124 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Education and Science if a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8 is receiving all her entitlements from his Department in view of the fact she is raising an autistic child; if any further measures are available from his Department or other agencies to assist her; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11119/99]

The child in question attends Ballyowen Meadows special school, Stillorgan, County Dublin. This is a special school for pupils with autism. My Department provides transport to and from the school.

Health support services are provided for pupils attending this school by a team of health professionals, funded by the Eastern Health Board, who are based on the same campus as the school.

I understand that the Deputy has also raised this matter with the Minister for Health and Children and the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs. I would expect that the Departments in question will pursue the issue raised by the Deputy in so far as their areas of responsibility are concerned.
