Question:

53 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the programme of food promotions undertaken by An Bord Bia since 1 January 1999 on the national market and the international market; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11040/99]

An Bord Bia works in partnership with the industry to increase sales and exports of Irish food and drink by fostering long-term, mutually satisfying relationships between Irish companies and existing and potential buyers. Accordingly, its policies, programmes and plans are driven by this perspective.

On the national market, an important aim is to increase consumer confidence and awareness of the nutritious value of food products.

On the export market, promotional resources and activities are focused on retaining our position as a leading exporter of food products.

The specific promotional activities are a day to day matter for An Bord Bia.
