Vol. 503 No. 7

Written Answers. - Nursing Homes.

Pat Carey

Question:

101 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the newly built St. Clare's nursing home in Glasnevin has still not opened to receive patients due to the difficulties being experienced by the Eastern Health Board in recruiting nursing staff; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11135/99]

The target date for the opening of the new community unit at St. Clare's home was 1 March 1999. However, despite several recruitment campaigns since December 1998, both in Ireland and England, the Eastern Health Board has not been able to recruit sufficient nurses to facilitate the opening of the unit.

The Eastern Health Board is continuing its efforts to source sufficient nurses in order to have this unit opened as soon as possible.
