Vol. 503 No. 7

Written Answers. - Medical Investigation.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

102 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will appoint a senior officer in his Department to investigate the case of the deceased wife of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 12 who, within nine days of receiving an all clear cervical smear test result, was admitted to hospital, diagnosed as having cervical cancer and died less than nine months later; if he will provide her husband with a full report on concluding his investigation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11136/99]

The investigation into this case is a matter in the first instance for the hospital. I have asked the hospital concerned to reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.
