Vol. 504 No. 2

Written Answers. - Knackery Industry.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

165 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will reduce the cost of disposing of special risk material in the knackery industry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11656/99]

Under existing legislation specified risk material is dealt with at a single dedicated rendering plant. The charge applied by that plant to knackeries is substantially below the charge to the meat processing sector. It is not my intention to attempt to bring about a further reduction in the charge to knackeries.
