Vol. 504 No. 2

Written Answers. - Rape Counselling Services.

Dan Neville

Question:

200 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a rape victim (details supplied) aged ten years had to wait for a period of three months for counselling. [11331/99]

There are agreed procedures for dealing with cases of abuse including sexual assault. However, in view of the facts brought to the Eastern Health Board's attention in this case there appears to have been a breakdown in normal procedure. The board is investigating this case and I am advised that the board will take whatever steps are necessary to address the matter. I have asked the board for a report as quickly as possible. The child concerned is now receiving counselling.
