Vol. 504 No. 2

Written Answers. - Abortion Legislation.

Ivor Callely

Question:

277 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the submissions or requests, if any, he has received in respect of the concerns by a large number of the public for a referendum on abortion; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11285/99]

I have received submissions from a number of individuals and groups about abortion, including a number which advocate the holding of a referendum.

In his reply to Question No. 21 of 22 April 1999 my colleague, the Minister for Health and Children, set out the position in relation to a Green Paper on Abortion which is under preparation.
