Vol. 504 No. 2

Written Answers. - Judicial Investigations.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

54 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the Attorney General has received the report from the Chief Justice of his investigation into the Sheedy affair; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10101/99]

I would refer the Deputy to my comprehensive statement on the case DPP v Sheedy in this House on 20 April which dealt, inter alia, with the report of the Chief Justice. As I informed the House on that occasion, the report of the Chief Justice was received by the Attorney General on 14 April 1999. I received the report from the Attorney General that afternoon and presented it to the Government at its meeting on 16 April 1999. At its meeting the Government decided to make the report available immediately to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Equality and Women's Rights. The Deputy will be aware that the joint committee decided to publish the report on the same day.
