Vol. 504 No. 7

Written Answers. - Postal Service.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

276 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the extent to which mail from his Department is lost, destroyed or delayed in the post; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12667/99]

My Department will incur about £5.9 million in postal charges in 1999 which includes the mailing of some 85,000 cheque payments each week to our customers. There is a very good working relationship between the Department's scheme sections and An Post, and any difficulties relating to the prompt delivery of the Department's mail, once identified, are quickly and effectively dealt with. While specific problems do arise from time to time, the service is considered to be both efficient and reliable.
