Vol. 504 No. 7

Written Answers. - Computer Programmes.

David Stanton

Question:

303 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the state of readiness of his Department with regard to the year 2000 computer issue; if he will report on the position in relation to hardware and software; if a statement of compliance of readiness has been issued; if not, if and when such a statement will be issued; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12598/99]

I am satisfied that my Department has a detailed programme of work in place to prepare for year 2000 compliance and that every effort is being made to ensure that compliance is achieved.

With regard to the Department's systems, it is expected that final compliance will be achieved by the end of September 1999. However, it is planned that the critical IT systems, both hardware and software, including courts and prisons IT systems which are directly under the control of my Department, will be compliant by the end of July 1999. The remaining work involves gaining assurance of compliance in relation to court buildings – plant and machinery – and ensuring compliance of some marginal systems.

It is intended that a statement of compliance will issue when all the Department's systems have been made compliant.
I refer the Deputy to a comprehensive answer on the position with regard to the agencies under the aegis of the Department which I gave to Parliamentary Question No. 152 on 21 April 1999.
