302 Mr. Dennehy asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of fatalities in road accidents in the Cork and Kerry regions during 1998; and his views on whether the level of fatalities in the regions differs significantly from the national average. [12766/99]

The information requested by the Deputy is not readily available for 1998. The following are the figures for 1997: Cork, 49 fatalities; Kerry, 14 fatalities.

Details of the number of fatalities throughout the country are set out in the Road Accidents Facts Ireland 1997 published by the National Roads Authority. Following is a relevant extract for the Deputy's information.

I understand that information in regard to vehicle and driver statistics are contained in the Irish Bulletin of Vehicles and Driver Statistics 1997 published by the Department of the Environment and Local Government.
