Vol. 504 No. 7

Written Answers. - Divorce Applications.

John Dennehy

Question:

311 Mr. Dennehy asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of applications for divorce refused by the courts during 1998. [12743/99]

Statistics in the courts are collated on the basis of the legal year, and not the calendar year. The number of divorce applications refused by the courts during the legal year ending 31 July 1998 was five. The number of divorce applications granted for the same year was 1,465.

The figures provided from Waterford Circuit Court for inclusion above – 52 granted and one refused – relate to the calendar year 1998.
