Vol. 504 No. 7

Written Answers. - Computer Programmes.

David Stanton

Question:

339 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science the state of readiness of his Department with regard to the year 2000 computer issue; if he will report on the position in relation to hardware and software; if a statement of compliance of readiness has been issued; if not, if and when such a statement will be issued; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12600/99]

My Department is implementing a programme of work designed to ensure that all the hardware and software components of its IT systems will continue to work through the changeover to the next millennium. This work programme is making good progress towards achieving year 2000 compliance. However as work is still in progress, no statement of compliance can be issued.

The interdepartmental year 2000 monitoring committee, which is charged with monitoring progress on this issue in Departments/Offices, has been advised that the target date for the completion of remedial work in my Department is 30 June 1999. My Department is due to submit a year 2000 progress report to this committee at the end of July at which stage it is hoped to provide a statement of compliance.
