Vol. 505 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Pat Carey

Question:

169 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science when a resource teacher will be appointed to St. Brigid's girls primary school, Glasnevin, Dublin 11. [14040/99]

Resource teacher support is provided to assist children with special needs who are attending ordinary primary schools on a fully integrated basis. The level of the response in each case will depend on the assessed needs of the child or group of children involved. The response may take the form of full-time or part-time support depending on the number of children involved and the nature of their needs.

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that my Department has recently sanctioned a part-time resource teaching allocation of six hours per week to the school in question to cater for two pupils with special needs who are attending the school.
